Centers for Dental Medicine provides the opportunity to greatly increase the number of patients accepting periodontal treatment, which then places pressure on the practices’ ability to produce the treatment sold. It is then that ergonomics and efficiency pay big dividends.

To solve this problem of increased production, Centers for Dental Medicine is partnering with HSP- Health Sciences Products to provide optimum operatory and equipment implementation for the hygiene room.

Between 1963 and 1986, $25M in grants were awarded to UAB and the leading US Dental schools to study the time and motion of dentistry and find more efficient methods of production. This resulted in the invention of true 4 handed Dentistry and technology integration including computers, magnification and illumination.

Since the large dental manufacturers had too much invested in the status quo and very expensive tooling, this research has not been widely implemented. It has been left to the entrepreneurial innovation of the more nimble HSP to fully implement the research. Health Science Products, Inc. was founded in 1969 and charged with the responsibility of designing and manufacturing dental equipment to meet the criteria defined in the research. The Dentassist, with its transthoracic delivery design, met all criteria for Four-Handed Dentistry and allowed the dentist to increase productivity and reduce stress and fatigue. The quality of its components and the simplicity of its design has kept a vast majority of the original units functioning at peak performance and allowing their dental clients to maintain the productivity levels the unit was designed to achieve.

The result has been ergonomic design and implementation that minimizes motion and operator stress and actually doubles productivity. Our CDM in Clinton Arkansas, who has implemented this program “I did a two-surface restoration, a root canal and a full crown on one patient in 55 minutes after only three weeks with my HSP four- handed dentistry equipment systems….. less than half the time I had been scheduling with my old rear-delivery traditional equipment. And I did my own time-coded video to prove it! Recently I did a crown prep, 1 surface composite on an adjacent tooth and an impression in fifteen minutes. Excellent!"
